Empty Concrete Room to a 70s Conversation Lounge

Posted

This room started as an empty living room in a new apartment: about 15 by 20 feet, raw concrete floor, white walls, a floor-to-ceiling window over the city and two loose ceiling wires. In this concept makeover, it becomes a 70s-inspired conversation lounge without digging into the floor.

The reel follows the build in order. Engineered oak goes down over the concrete, a warm LED cove lights the ceiling edge, and walnut slat panels cover the side wall above a low walnut credenza with one large abstract print. A round braided jute rug rolls out, then a curved modular U-shaped sofa in rust and cream boucle clicks together around a round travertine coffee table.

Plants, a stacked paper lantern by the window and two mushroom lamps finish the room as the sun sets, with cream, olive and striped cushions and a rust knit throw.

The estimated total is about $12,910 at 2026 US prices, or about $2,420 if you keep the concrete and buy second-hand.
